Anne Harrington Rees – Textile / basket weaver who specialises in environmental artworks works with the class to look at the local landscape through direct observation, maps and photographs. The techniques used were papier maché, felt making, weaving and wire modeling, as well as drawing and painting.
Numeracy & Literacy Skills
Developing mapping skills – Looking at aerial photos and Ordinance Survey maps. Noticing how places relate to each other.
Transferring 2D designs / plans to a 3D model
Measuring heights at which to cut materials to make models
Measuring and planning which feature should go where on the map
Using images of Enviromental Artist Andy Goldsworthy as a stimulous, – the children created design ideas by grading leaves and seed heads
Investigation of the colour in leaves found outside – grading the colours from green to yellow to orange to red to dark brown and then using these colours to paint pictures afterwards.
