Upon leaving school, I studied Physics at UCC. My fascination for the way in which wooden boatbuilding brings together traditional craft, science and creativity led me to undertake training at IBTC in Lowestoft,UK, where I obtained my City & Guilds in Wooden Boatbuilding in 1995. Since then I have been building and restoring wooden boats as well as making furniture. I work together with my partner, Rui Ferreira, in our workshop in Ballydehob, Co Cork.
My partner and I are currently running a series of short, intense workshops designed to lead adults through the whole process of building a traditional clinker boat. We have also given basic joinery courses.
I have given several illustrated talks on various aspects of wooden boatbuilding.
Transition year students do work experience in our workshop several times a year.
I have given some rope-fender making demonstrations at local boat festivals.
